About the Book

An excellent locally published academic treatise on the remarkable rock-cut city of Vardzia in South-West Georgia.   Dating from the C12th and C13th, the habitations and workshops were cut into the sheer cliff face to serve as a monastic fortress which then fell into disuse by the C16th.  An 18 page Introductory essay is followed by a 44-page album of large b&w photographs of the interior and exterior of the rock-cut habitations, the inter-connecting corridors, and the murals that decorate the walls of the internal church.  Also includes a fold-out plan of the site.  Text is in English and Russian.  Hardback in very good clean condition.  Cat No N122
