Detailed report on the opening of the coffins of two C13th archbishops whose elaborate tombs and marble canopies required urgent stabilisation and restoration in 1968.  Both coffins were found to contain a pastoral staff, paten and chalice accompanying the skeleton whose archbishop’s ring was also recovered along with remnants of vestments.  The elaborate architecture of de Gray’s monument is also described and illustrated in detail as is his unique painted coffin lid.  Large format paperback.  48 pages.
