About the Book
Tarmac Papers. The Archives And History Initiative of Tarmac Limited. Volume IV: 2000
As Tarmac Ltd’s construction work demanded quarrying and gravel extraction, archaeological sites were sometimes lost and geological sites destroyed. Payback in the form of collected reports on archaeological rescue excavations and the history of quarrying were published by the company in four successive volumes. This is the final and largest volume and includes reports on: the discovery of three Bronze Age cremation urns at Oving in West Sussex; excavations and metal finds from a high-status Anglo-Saxon settlement at Flixborough in Lincolnshire; fieldwalking evaluations of field systems and the recovery a Romano-British quern at Arnold in Nottinghamshire; a large number of reports on the industrial history of quarrying in Derbyshire and the opportunistic discovery of a mammoth tusk during gravel extraction at Hoveringham Quarry. Paperback, illustrated dustjacket over card covers. 344 pages. Very good condition. Cat No 4557
