About the Book
Sumer Is Icumen In
Published to mark the unveiling of a memorial tablet in Reading Abbey, this short book describes one of the most important manuscripts in the British Library – the hand-written musical notation of an early English pastoral song - ‘Sumer Is Icumen In’. It includes a transcription of the song’s lyrics and, as colour frontispiece, the manuscript itself. Printed on hand-made paper and embellished with medieval woodcuts, the cover bears the crest of the Abbot of Reading. Hardback. 16 pages. This is the original 1913 edition in with no internal inscriptions or library markings but does have some loss to the brittle spine edge (see photo). Cat No A252ea
