About the Book
Soane's Ark: Building with Symbols
To mark the tercentenary of the establishment of freemasonry in London an exhibition was held at Sir John Soane’s Museum where the centrepiece was a reconstruction of a piece of ritual furniture known as the Ark of the Masonic Covenant designed by Soane in 1813 as an ornamental cabinet to hold the most precious of masonic documents but which was subsequently destroyed in 1873 by a catastrophic fire at the Grand Temple in 1883. This book describes the original Ark reproducing historic drawings used to construct the replica. as well as the deep association Soane had with London freemasonry. Paperback. Near new condition.
