About the Book
Select Exhibition of Sir John and Lady Beazley’s Gifts to the Ashmolean Museum 1912 – 1966
Marking the large donation of Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiquities bequeathed to the Museum, this exhibition showcased a selection of some of Sir John’s finest artefacts, focussing predominantly on his collection of Attic black-figure and Attic red-figure vases which, as Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Oxford, were his speciality. This catalogue of the exhibition is an academic work in its own right, describing not only the many vases and decorated fragments, but also Roman lamps and seal stones. 666 exhibits are included and over 400 are depicted in 86 b&w plates. Includes an Index of Provenances and a Bibliography of Beazley’s publications. Large paperback. 188 pages plus plates. Minor external rubbing, otherwise in good clean condition. Cat No 4560
