About the Book

A lavish auction catalogue published to advertise two of the finest illuminated manuscripts ever produced.  The missal was commissioned by the Venetian Cardinal Cornaro around 1505.  The prayer book dates from about the same time and is a Flemish book of hours.  It still holds the auction record for an illuminated manuscript having fetched £8.5m at this auction.   Both survived seizure by the Nazis before restitution to the Rothschilds.  Very detailed descriptions of provenance, binding, content, illumination and decoration are given for both items which are accompanied by thirty pages of full colour plates.  Large format paperback.  64 pages.  Very good clean condition.  Cat No 3239
