About the Book
Paper-Making in England 1495-1788
Following the advent of paper-making in Germany and France during the C15th, the earliest English manufacturer is recorded here as being John Tate of Hertford in the 1490’s. There follows the identification of other medieval paper-mills and the known evidence for their production and trade. The history of the longest operating English paper-mill – Laverstoke – is also documented with additional comments on the disruption of paper production during the plague years of 1636-7. Paperback. 32 pages. Good condition. Cat No 4425
