About the Book

The author re-examines the carved Saxon grave slabs and the remains of a Saxon cross shaft  discovered in the early C20th during church renovations and now conserved  in the church entrance.   He ascribes an earlier date than previously thought of C8th.  His thesis is explored in some detail with comparisons made to similar stones found in Celtic monastic houses in Ireland and Northumbria.  Photographs of these and of the Newent fragments accompany the text.  Paperback.  90 pages.  Very good clean condition.  This copy includes a letter from the author to medievalist Professor Gabor Thomas of Reading University.  Cat No 3997
