About the Book

In 1953, the rich cultural remains at Banpo near Xi’an drew the attention of Chinese archaeologists who were able to research the living conditions of Banpo people 6,000 years ago.  Through the careful excavation of three years, from 1954 to 1957, the cultural remains of Neolithic peoples were found Including the ruins of forty-five houses and cave sites used for storage or pottery manufacture.  The skeletons of more than seventy children were recovered alongside stone tools, animal bones, nuts and grains.  This book includes many b&w photographs of the excavations and many examples of decorated pottery, bone fish-hooks, stone axe heads, shell ornaments, and tomb burials, which are housed at the Banpo Museum. The text is printed in both English and Chinese. Good condition. Cat No 3933
