About the Book
Marcus van Eindhoven: An Archaeological Biography of a Medieval Child
Skeletal remains from the Middle Ages were found during a small-scale excavation on the square in front of St Catherine's church in Eindhoven. One grave was examined more closely than others being that of a child. Archaeological DNA research showed that it was a boy. Analysis of his teeth indicated he must have been about ten years old . Near the boy`s lower jaw was a coin, a grosso of the Doge of Venice. The silver coin was sewn onto the shroud on a silk thread, a scarce textile at this date and probably from China. Because Saint Marcus was on the worn coin, excavators named the boy Marcus van Eindhoven. Illustrated throughout with many excellent colour photographs, site plans and facial reconstructions. Text in English. Paperback. 112 pages. One tiny crease to cover corner, otherwise new condition. Cat No 4528
