About the Book

Sumptuous catalogue published to coincide with the exhibition 'Gilded and Glazed: Mamluk Glass and Iznik Pottery' held at the Sheraton Doha Hotel and featuring ten of the very finest and rarest examples of decorated glass mosque lamps created in Cairo at the craft's apogee in the C14th and C15th.  Each is described in great detail in terms of their design, decoration, inscription, date and likely Sultan attribution.  The entries are accompanied by outstanding colour plates of each lamp in its entirety, plus several close-ups to emphasise their intricacy and beauty.   As a further complement, two extremely rare C13th gilded blue glass vases are also featured, described and illustrated in the same fashion. An essay on the technology of Mamluk glass making is included, as is an extensive bibliography.  The entire text is dual language - English and Arabic.  Hard covers.  150 pages.  In new condition.
