An early and definitive history of C16th majolica pottery, focussing primarily on the decorative items from Italy, but with additional detail on the influence of early Persian faience. 79 excellent engravings of the finer examples accompany the German text. 200 pages. This copy is the first edition (1896) of a subsequently reprinted work. This copy comes from the Heseltine Collection dispersed in the 1930's and has been bound (including the original covers) into a handsome three-quarter leather binding, with marbled boards and end-papers, and raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine.
