The story of the building of Welsh castles with the emphasis on the masons and carpenters employed in their construction but more particularly the costs to the exchequer as deduced from detailed accounts records. Divided into two sections - the first deals with castles of the war of 1277 (Aberystwyth, Flint, Rhuddlan etc) and the second deals with castles of the war of 1283 (Conway, Harlech, Caernarvon and Beaumaris amongst others).
