The looting and deliberate destruction that accompanied two decades of war left the Kabul museum with nothing but a carcass, emptied of its prestigious collections: Missing - the ivories and glass from the treasure of Begram; Destroyed - the stelae and Buddhas of Hadda, Shotorak and Païtava; Disappeared - the astonishing wooden effigies of Nuristan.
