About the Book

A rather odd conflation of two aspects of one of the largest and most remarkable Mayan ruins – firstly this is a straightforward detailed guide to the various structures on the Uxmal site with many b&w photographs, secondly the local author uses supposed evidence to propound his personal thesis that the ancient Mayan religion, and a large part of their culture, was governed by the geometrical markings on the back of a rattlesnake, an animal he says was revered above all others (including the jaguar).  His evidence seems speculative at times and at others downright wrong despite him including several peculiar diagrams in support of his ideas.  Includes a fold-out map of Mexican Mayan sites and another of Uxmal itself.  Paperback.  82 pages.  Minor signs of age, otherwise good condition.  Cat No 4144
