About the Book
The Howse which was so Faire: Discovering Campden House and Gardens
A wonderfully produced history of one England's finest Jacobean mansions sadly burnt down during the Royalist retreat in 1645. Archaeology is used alongside historic engravings of the house and known comparable houses of the period to recreate its original appearance. Resistance surveys are used to reconstruct the layout of the extensive gardens and parterre. Outlying buildings - the east and west banqueting houses, the gatehouse and almonry - escaped the fire and still stand today. Their interior and exterior features are surveyed and illustrated here. Paperback. 88 pages. Many excellent colour photographs, archive illustrations and ground plans. New condition. Cat No 3517
