About the Book

The author, a noted book illustrator and belletomane, describes how he formed a large collection of English women's dresses, dating mainly from the C18th and C19th, and assembled between the 1930's and 1960's when such collecting was relatively low cost and unregarded.  Latterly he expanded his gathering to include Greek and Turkish folk costume.  The entire collection was housed in a large country mansion near Dumfries which the author inherited from his father and subsequently donated, with its contents, to the National Museum of Scotland.   Illustrated. Booklet. 32 pages. Good condition.  Cat No 4024
