About the Book

This book examines one specific hoard horizon connected to the Mongol invasion of Hungary (1241-42).  It concentrates mainly on the archaeological discoveries in Kána, Hungary.  The author analyzes treasures and graves from a medieval settlement and its surrounding necropolis.  The first chapter discusses issues regarding methodology, the Kána, treasures, currency matters, the interpretation of the treasures, church cemeteries, and destroyed settlements. The second chapter contains a typochronology of the most important adornment and clothing items discovered in Kána (lock rings, rings, various types of brooches, pins, buttons, belt buckles, mounts, and a pectoral cross). The last chapter focuses on the socio-economical interpretations of the treasures discovered in Hungary allowing assessments to be made regarding wealth, status, and fashion.    Illustrated throughout with site plans, drawings of grave goods and small finds as well as many excellent colour and b&w photographs of jewellery and other metal artefacts.  Includes an extensive bibliography.  Large paperback.  96 pages.  In near new condition.  Cat No 5116
