About the Book
Die Ebstorfer Weltkarte
A scholarly treatise exploring every aspect of the remarkable large Mappa Mundi originally housed at Ebstorf convent in northern Germany but destroyed during allied bombing in WWII. Comparisons with other similar maps are explored, including that of the famous Hereford cathedral map. Gervase of Tilbury's possible authorship is also given consideration. Fortunately photographs of the original were taken prior to its destruction allowing for exact facsimiles to be created which appear as detailed illustrations in this volume. Includes a bibliography. Text throughout is in German. Many fine colour and b&w photographs accompany the text. Hardback. 102 pages. White cover a little bit grubby, otherwise good condition. NB: This copy includes a large colour fold-out poster facsimile of the Ebstorfer world map in excellent clean condition. Cat No 4756
