About the Book
Cuddesdon and Dorchester-on-Thames: Two Early Saxon 'Princely' Sites in Wessex
Postulates the presence of a West Saxon royal centre in the Upper Thames valley using the finds recovered in the C19th from two Saxon burial sites at Cuddesdon and Dorchester as evidence. These comprised two remarkable coptic glass vessels, a large bronze bucket and a pyramidal gilt and cloisonné stud. Undeniable comparisons are drawn with similar, if more dramatic, finds from Sutton Hoo. Although well illustrated at the time of discovery (and shown here) these finds are now lost.
