About the Book

By the time the Gutenberg Bible appeared in Germany in 1456, printing had been known innthe East for five hundred years.  The Chinese and Koreans were able to make movable type and used it in connection to the finest calligraphy.  This book examines the influence of different calligraphic styles on the making of books both before and after the advent of printing.  It is illustrated with photographs of one hundred items selected for exhibition at the Princeton Art Museum and represents an important contribution to the study and appreciation of the artistic achievements of East Asia.  Hardback.  264 pages.  Very good clean condition.  Cat No 4247
